Montserrat is a Natural Park that held the venerated Lady of Montserrat, the patron saint of the region of Catalunya, called popularly “La Moreneta” or Black Madonna.
Montserrat means serrated mountain and is nature, history, culture and religion, a unique landscape with impressive mountains, rounded peaks and massive rocks, with wonderful views. It’s a paradise for active people, climbing, hiking and exploring caves. It is also a Benedictine Monastery where still there is the oldest boys’ choir school in Europe called “Escolania”. About 80 monks share the experience to live there with about 50 boys on a high of 2.300 feet above the sea level. The Monastery and the Basilica are one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Europe. There is a magnificent collection of art at the Museum to see.
The Monastery of Montserrat is situated 30 miles away from Barcelona city; we will reach the place by private transportation, car or van. Optional is the rack railway to the Basilica complex.
