Overview
This is a journey through the history of the 2000-year-old city, from Roman origins to the present-day Gothic Quarter.
Ruins, churches, palaces, markets and fairs, legends and saints living their daily life. This is the easiest tour to feel like a local. You will find amazing corners and charming little squares that hide the secrets that old stones contain.
This is a comfortable walking tour to discover the origin of Barcelona,
To enter a world of legends and mysteries, and to get to know the secrets the old stones hide. It’s an easy way to learn about European architecture and explore the old city in a different way than traditional tours offer.
Starting at the main central square, Plaça Catalunya,
Which serves as the gateway to the Gothic Quarter, we will enter the small and narrow streets of this historic neighborhood. We’ll take a short walk down La Rambla, a famous pedestrian street, and head toward La Boqueria Market. Here, we can admire the façade of the Opera House. From La Rambla, you can easily reach Plaça Reial, a beautiful square surrounded by elegant buildings and palm trees.
The places we will visit include:
The ancient Roman walls, the quiet squares like San Felip Neri or Sant Jaume — the political heart of Barcelona — where you’ll find Barcelona’s City Hall and the Palau de la Generalitat, the Catalan government’s headquarters. We’ll also see the famous Bisbe Bridge, a neo-Gothic bridge that spans the street.
We will pass by Plaça del Rei (King’s Square),
A historic square located in the heart of the Barri Gòtic. This square is significant because it was once the center of medieval Barcelona and the home of the Catalan monarchy. Here you’ll find the residence of the Counts of Barcelona and later the kings of Aragon. The Palau Reial Major is an impressive medieval building with a rich history.
A must-see are also the Gothic churches such as Santa Maria del Pi and the Saint Cross Cathedral.
One of the most significant landmarks in the Gothic Quarter, this stunning cathedral features beautiful Gothic architecture, a peaceful cloister, and impressive views from its rooftop (a small fee grants access to the roof).
This is a unique walking tour in Europe — don’t miss it!
