Overview
Picasso is without doubt one of our most recognizable painters worldwide and key figure of the culture of the 20th century. He had a strong relationship with Barcelona.
Originally born in Malaga in 1881 he moved to Barcelona with his parents in 1895. Picasso’s training under his father began before 1890. His progress can be traced in the collection of early works now held by the Museu Picasso in Barcelona. The Museum opened its doors on Carrer Montcada in 1963 and is a reference centre for the study of the artist’s early work and his youth.
Furthermore in 1970 Picasso decided to donate to the city of Barcelona all the works that had been kept by his relatives in the family residence. The collection, made up of around 5.000 pieces, is the most complete that exists from Picasso’s initial periods.
This walking tour follows the steps of the artist, from the old café-cabaret “Els Quatre Gats”, the COAC (Catalan Architects Association) with it’s the frieze that shows drawings constituting one of his most important works of urban art to the Picasso Museum (Including the inside visit) Picasso museum in Barcelona is the first museum dedicated to Picasso’s work and the only one created during the artist’s life. The Museum is one of the city’s main artistic attractions.
